The Marfa Demos include the hypnotizing new single ‘Will Call’s’ plus ‘Taken Down’ and ‘Everyone I Know’ as well as two. The three demos included on the release were recorded by the band in Marfa, Texas before they finished recording in New York City. Meanwhile, a 12-inch vinyl version of the album will just features the demos and remixes. The first being a two-disc CD release titled Shields Expanded, which will come with the original Shields plus a bonus disc of demos plus remixes from artists such as Liars and Nicolas Jaar. While ‘Shield’ has a more uptempo approach, the b-sides contrast in a blissfully moody, shoe-gazing fashion- ‘Listen & Wait’ being a prime example. Most songs feature some sort of added electronic element (See: What’s Wrong or gun-shy), and the band, at. The band will re-issue the album on November 12 in two separate formats. The b-sides include a Nicolas Jaar remix of Sleeping Ute that sends the song deeper into space and a Lindstrom remix of gun-shy that adds a few minutes and turns the song into a disco track. It serves as a true testament to Grizzly Bear’s song writing ability. Although some of the album’s songs sound like they could be off a Fleet Foxes album (The Hunt in particular sounds like it could be a B-side from Helplessness Blues), Grizzly Bear‘s Shields pushes the boundaries of that folky reverb style and ventures into a much broader range.
